Residential Lock Reinforcement

Strengthen the locking area of a door with reinforcement suited to your door and frame.

What lock reinforcement covers

Reinforcement work improves the strength of the area around the lock: the strike, the jamb, the latch or bolt area, and in some cases the door edge itself. On many doors the lock is not the weak point — the frame and strike are.

The right approach depends on the door, the frame material and condition, and the hardware already installed. A hollow slab door, a solid wood door and a metal-frame suite entry each call for different work.

When it is worth doing

After an attempted break-in, or when a neighbour has had one.

When a door has visible play, a loose strike, split jamb wood or screws that no longer bite.

When upgrading hardware and you want the surrounding door area to match the quality of the new lock.

How we approach it

We assess the door and frame on site and recommend reinforcement that suits the condition of what is actually there. We will not oversell hardware that the door cannot support, and we are straightforward about what reinforcement can and cannot do.
